Our pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, physicians, nurses and operating room technicians – many of whom participated in CCPF’s inaugural mission and continue to participate year after year – are from some of the leading medical centers in the United States. Specialties represented include: pediatric surgical specialists in orthopaedic, urologic, general and plastic surgery; anesthesiologists, pediatricians, nurses, operating room technicians and specialists in infectious diseases and pediatric pulmonary function in the recovery areas. Translator volunteers fluent in Mandarin, English and medical terminology are typically recruited through the Chinese student population at Columbia University Medical Center and Harvard University School of Medicine. Non-clinical volunteers bring distractions and joy to the children awaiting their turn for surgery. The medical/surgical team is led by CCPF’s Medical Director, David P. Roye, Jr., MD, a prominent surgeon who has received widespread recognition for his efforts, teaching, and research including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Humanitarian Award (2009). Dr. Roye specializes in treating scoliosis, other spinal deformities, and performing hip surgery in adolescents. The all-volunteer Rehabilitation team consists of physiatrists, speech, occupational and physical therapists, and orthotists. This team is led by Dr. Heakyung Kim, Director of Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service at the NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. One of the country’s leading physiatrists, Dr. Kim specializes in the care of children with neuromuscular disorders. |
