Novant Health is ranked 21st nationally among the 2012 Top 100 Healthcare Networks, according to an analysis by the IMS health informatics company. The Top 100 is a listing of the nation's leading integrated healthcare networks. The ranking is based on eight critical success factors used to evaluate health systems throughout the country. Novant Health has twice received the prestigious Ernest A. Codman Award from the national Joint Commission for improving system-wide the quality and safety of care provided to patients: in 2004 for improving care for patients taking blood thinning medications and again in 2008 for preventing MRSA infections by improving hand hygiene. The Carolinas Minority Supplier Development Council honored Novant Health in 2010 with the Council’s Public-Private Sector Organization of the Year award. The honor recognized Novant Health’s commitment to minority business purchasing, technical and managerial assistance to enterprises and volume of business opportunities dedicated to minority companies.

Organizational structure:	Novant Health is a nonprofit integrated healthcare system comprised of 14 medical centers, 5,071 medical staff providers in more than 495 locations, as well as numerous outpatient surgery centers, medical plazas, rehabilitation programs, diagnostic imaging centers and community health outreach programs. Novant Health's 25,600 team members care for patients and communities in North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia. In 2014, Novant Health facilities served 121,819 inpatients, provided 3.8 million physician appointments and provided more than $639 million in community benefit, including charity care and unreimbursed Medicare/Medicaid services. One of Novant Health’s 14 medical centers is Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center (NHFMC) located in Winston-Salem, NC. Forsyth Medical Center is a 921-bed hospital, the largest hospital in the Novant Health system. NHFMC provides state-of-the-art healthcare that is second to none, both because of the advanced treatments available and because of the experience—and caring natures—of doctors and nurses. Centers of excellence include the Maya Angelou Women’s Health and Wellness Center, Rehabilitation Center, Heart and Vascular Institute, Derrick L. Davis Cancer Center, Stroke and Neurosciences Center, Orthopedic Center and Behavioral Health. NHFMC was the first hospital in the Carolinas to receive national certification for its Congestive Heart Failure Program and Total Hip and Total Knee Joint Replacement Surgery Program. The Joint Commission certifies hospital programs that meet national standards for quality and safety. The Novant Health Maya Angelou Women’s Health & Wellness Center (NHMAWHWC) is an innovative center within NHFMC that seeks to expand its local, national and global contributions to improving women’s health. Gender disparities in healthcare compel the Angelou Center to increase public awareness and implement programs to improve women’s lives – in North Carolina, the United States and the world. The Center brings together individuals, groups, agencies and organizations across a comprehensive spectrum of disciplines to improve women’s health. The Angelou Center makes a major contribution to the health of women through clinical practice, education, outreach and research. NHMAWHWC’s vision: All those who aspire to improve the health and overall lives of women around the world should take into account gender-unique issues from childhood to puberty, motherhood to menopause, and adulthood to mature age. The NHMAWHWC redefines women’s health. In addition to a focus on the traditional core areas of reproductive health, hormone deficiencies, labor and delivery, breast and gynecologic care, the Center expands its gender-unique programs to include all areas of medicine. The Center aims to make a real and sustainable difference in the health of communities as a whole, locally, nationally and worldwide by increasing public awareness, empowering women to expect healthier lives and relationships, maintaining and promoting clinical expertise and participating in global health outreach.
