Organizational structure: Canadian Canola Growers Association’s (CCGA) vision is “helping farmers succeed” and its mission is “to influence national and international issues, programs and policies to enhance the success of Canadian canola farmers”. To do so, CCGA has three main business functions – to administer the Advance Payments Program (APP) on behalf of the Federal Government, to undertake policy development of key issues affecting canola and to advocate for farmer interests in various fora. The APP offers short-term cash advances to farmers providing the necessary capital to purchase crop inputs and allowing flexibility in when to market their grain. CCGA is governed by a farmer-appointed board of directors. Directors are appointed by five provincial canola association members. Our board consists of ten farmers – one from British Columbia, three from Alberta, three from Saskatchewan, two from Manitoba and one from Ontario. The board holds an annual general meeting and three regularly scheduled board meetings each year. In the interim, three board standing committees (transportation, environment and sustainability/business risk management and trade/marketing) meet to better understand the various challenges farmers face in growing food, and to discuss major policy areas impacting their success. CCGA is managed by a Chief Executive Officer and Senior Leadership Team consisting of our Directors of Finance and Operations, Communications, Policy Development and Government Relations.
Number and type of members: CCGA is the national association representing the interest of canola farmers. It consists of one membership class composed of Canada’s five provincial canola grower associations. Collectively, through our members, we represent 95% of the Canadian canola production and 43,000 canola farmers.
