    Year of registration: 2001
    Organizational structure: The organisation is overseen by a Board of Trustees, elected from among the membership. The Trustees manage the affairs of the organisation and may for that purpose exercise all the powers of the organisation. The Board of Trustees delegates the financial oversight and reporting to a Finance Committee. The day-to-day running of the organisation is managed by a Secretariat.
    Number and type of members: Membership is open to any oceanographic research institution, department or organisation (or consortium of the same) from any part of the world that is interested in furthering the organisation's purposes. There are currently 38 members (including 2 consortia) from 20 countries.
    Affiliation with NGO networks: POGO works with other NGOs, such as the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR), which is an international organisation focussing on global cooperation and capacity building in marine science.
