Fundación Bancaria Caixa d’Estalvis i Pensions de Barcelona, “la Caixa”, is a nonprofit organization, and its heritage is bound to the compliance with general interest purposes. It is the result of transforming Caixa d'Estalvis i Pensions de Barcelona (“la Caixa”) into a banking foundation and, coming from this transformation, the organization maintains its legal personality, with full legal and working capacity. The Foundation focuses its main activity on the care and development of Obra Social and on the appropriate management of CriteriaCaixa. This wholly-owned investee is the holding company for the ”la Caixa” shares in CaixaBank as well as for holdings in other, non-financial, strategic sectors. Fundación Bancaria Caixa d’Estalvis i Pensions de Barcelona, ”la Caixa”, will mainly carry out its activities throughout the Spanish territory, without prejudice of a special dedication due to its origin to Catalonia and the Balearic islands, as well as the possible development of its activity at a national scale. The Foundation is registered in the Foundations Registry and is bound by Law 26/2013 of 27 December on savings banks and banking foundations, by Law 50/2002 of 26 December on foundations, by the rest of the applicable regulations and by its Statutes. Additionally, the Foundation is under the protection of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, and the Bank of Spain carries out the supervision tasks assigned to it by the current regulations. Governing Bodies According to the Law, the government bodies of the Foundation are the Board of trustees and the CEO. The Board of trustees is the highest government body and representation of the Foundation, and they have the task of complying with the foundation purposes and diligently managing the assets and rights which make up the Foundation's heritage, while maintaining its performance and usefulness. The Board of trustees is the body that names the CEO.
