Organizational structure: Collaborative for Children is registered in the state of Texas as an education nonprofit. For more than 33 years, the organization has served as the agency in the state of Texas that improves the quality of early learning environments for children who reside in communities most affected by abject poverty. CFC trains teachers in 50 states and 13 countries, support parents and other care givers in recognizing and influencing early childhood developmental milestones, leading towards school-readiness outcomes. The organization assists nearly 1,000 child care centers with disaster recovery annually during hurricane season. CFC provides business development training for thousands of child care directors, technical assistance for early educators, high quality learning environments for more than 500 child care centers in 13 counties and family engagement in early learning centers. At present, less than 1/2 of children in the greater Houston area arrive at school with sufficient preparation to learn. Approximately one half read at grade level by 3rd grade and ultimately only 25% achieve a secondary degree (Associates or Bachelors degree). Collaborative for Children supports child care centers in rural and underserved areas of the state of Texas and across the nation through its training and developing centers of excellence. The centers of excellence lie in areas of the region that are child care deserts and near critical frontline employees during natural disasters. Additionally Collaborative for Children improves and rates the vast majority of child care centers in the state of Texas for quality improvement. The organization was established essentially to challenge inequities in primary education at the outset of a learner's education tenure. It improves the school-readiness outcomes for children living in poverty so that they will arrive at school ready to learn on day one, as well as their more affluent counterparts.
