Mission statement:	Established in 2005, IHC is an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit global membership coalition of national and international NGOs, civil society organizations, private sector companies, and individuals committed to equitable urban development and sustainable, inclusive cities. IHC is committed to the principle that greater income equality and greater prosperity for all result from an integrated, resource-supported plan for the development of a spatially, socially and economically inclusive city. IHC has historically had a special advocacy focus on informal settlements and the urban poor. IHC believes that housing (including durable structure, adequate sanitation and water, adequate living space and secure tenure) is a critical element in urban development. Our advocacy agenda is centered around six drivers for greater equity: Housing delivery, land tenure, urban water and sanitation, climate adaptation and resilience of the urban poor, and urban food security. IHC seeks to inform public opinion, contribute to the global public policy dialogue and increase resource allocation and programs to enhance urban equity and opportunity. This is done through direct advocacy, knowledge sharing, educational programs, and targeted analysis and research.

Number and type of members:	IHC is a membership organization comprised of 32 members at the end of FY2015. These include national and international civil society organizations as well as private sector members. In 2016, the Board voted to enable individuals to become members and IHC is currently initiating a campaign to broaden its membership globally and to include individuals.
