Mission statement:	Its mission is to preserve Tai culture and promote the well being of Tai people worldwide. In addition to research, publishing and sponsoring educational and cultural projects, TSC turned its attention to the homeland, and in 1983, was able to contact and reconcile with the Vietnamese government after 30 years of no contact. In 1987, 1989, 1990, and 1993, TSC sent delegates to northwestern Vietnam in cooperation with the American Friends Service Committee and the Ford Foundation, to witness and study conditions in the indigenous region. TSC has continued to encourage and facilitate personal trips of hundreds of Tai Dam to and from northwestern Vietnam. In 1993, two board members were sent to The Hague to observe and speak of their concerns at the Third General Assembly of UNPO. In 1994, TSC organized, in Iowa, a Tai International Conference with representatives of Tai groups from America, France, Canada, and Australia. “Tai Solidarity International” (TSI) was formed and two resolutions were submitted to the Vietnamese government: a request for an investigation of a massacre of 53 Tai Dam in Son La Province in 1993, and a plea against construction of the Son La Dam. They also requested to sponsor Tai Dam students for higher education in Iowa. All of these requests were ignored. TSC, in cooperation with Khmer Krom organization in USA has organized and participated in the UN Permanent Forums on Indigenous Issues since 2012 until present year. To advocate for assistance from the international community to Tai people living in NW Vietnam, TSC has produced media to promote awareness of the history and suffering of the indigenous people in northwestern Vietnam.

Organizational structure:	Tai Studies Center is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1984 in the state of Iowa, and governed by a board of nine directors elected every two years.
Number and type of members:	All people with Tai Dam heritage are considered as members without fees. About 10,000 Tai Dam live in the United States.
