AER is governed by the President and two main bodies, the Executive Board, responsible for the day-to-day management and decision-making of the organisation and the General Assembly, the highest authority of the organisation, made up of all member regions, responsible for the political impetus and strategic orientations. In parallel to these two statutory bodies are the Bureau and the Committees. The Bureau is the primary political voice of the organisation while the Committees handle all thematic policies relevant for regions: Committee 1: Economy and regional development, Committee 2: Social policy and public health, Committee 3: Culture, education and youth The 6 Vice-Presidents of the Executive Board are also assigned specific thematic portfolios to cover key transversal issues. |
Number and type of members: |
150 members. Full members: European regions, under the condition that they respect the basic fundamental principles of the Council of Europe. Groups of regions within a state, unless all members of such a group already belong to AER on an individual basis. As Associate members: European or non-European territorial entities, organizations or associations, including administrative divisions below national or regional level. |
