Involvement in UN Partnerships: Yes
If yes, explain in detail: nrg4SD is accredited towards United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) Governing Council within the Local Authorities Major Group. nrg4SD therefore takes part in UNEP’s Major Groups Facilitating Committee as an alternate member for the Local Authorities Major Group and participates in the annual Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum, as well as in the Global Environmental Ministerial Forum. nrg4SD is also accredited towards UN CSD within the Local Authorities Major Group in which it can bring the voice of subnational governments into UN CSD Sessions and its inter-sessional preparatory meetings, as well as into the UN Preparatory Committee for Rio +20. nrg4SD also establishes direct links with UN Habitat, the UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS) and the UN Global Sustainability Panel. Following a consultation in March 2011 conducted by UN NGLS, nrg4SD submitted a contribution to the work of the UN Global Sustainability Panel in November 2011 focuing on the contribution of subnational governments and local authorities to the achievement of sustainable development (SD) goals at global level. nrg4SD is fully involved in the Rio+20 process and has established a Working Group to coordinate the works of the network in this field. nrg4SD also submitted a consolidation document to UN DESA for the zero draft outcome documet for Rio+20. In preparation for Rio+20, nrg4SD has attended many of the interessional and preparatory meetings in New York in the last year. nrg4SD also works in the areas of climate change, biodiversity, forests, water and sanitation with the overarching theme of sustainable development. nrg4SD is accredited to UNFCCC working closely with the UNFCCC Secretariat in calling for the implementation of the role of subnational governments as 'governmental stakeholders' (one of the decisions in the Cancun Agreements at COP16) in international climate change negotiations. Accredited to the UN CBD, nrg4SD worked closely with the Secretariat of the Convention in the run up to COP 10 in Nagoya towards the elaboration of the Plan of Action on Subnational Governments, Cities and Local Authorities. nrg4SD takes part in the Global Partnership for Biodiversity and, following from Decision X/22, is collaborating with the Secretariat and the Parties of the Convention in order to facilitate the implementation of the Plan of Action and the establishment of an Advisory Committee of Subnational Governments for Biodiversity. Affiliation with other organizations: nrg4SD has established close partnerships with other organisations representing local governments, such as ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability and United Cities and Local Government UCLG, and The Stakeholder Forum. nrg4SD is working with all the members of the global partnership for the UN CBD Plan of Action, and in particular with ICLEI, who are key partners to the Convention on Biological Diversity for the implementation of the Plan of Action and the establishment of the Advisory Committee of Local Authorities and Cities. nrg4SD also works closely with The Climate Group and CDC Climat whereby a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between nrg4SD and both organisations in order to work closely on climate change issues. Alongside the Rio+20 Conference, nrg4SD will be organising a World Summit of Regions in close collaboration with the Co-chairs of nrg4SD, the Government of Sao Paulo, Catalonia and the host, Rio de Janeiro.
