Purpose of the organization: To protect, promote and safeguard the rights/ privileges of persons with disability and promote public enlightenment in civic education, human rights and public policy. To initiate and implement programmes, policies and activities geared toward the promotion and enhancement of the welfare of persons with disability. To empower or assist in empowering persons with disability and regularly access the impact of public policy on human rights and report on same through publications seminars, workshops and lectures. To educate, sensitise, counsel and mobilize persons with disability in various areas critical to their survival and progress and support and advocate for respect for the rule of law and due process To monitoring the formulation and implementation of policies that impact on or are of public interest as relevant to persons with disability and publish reports, newsletters, journals or policy papers on same. To organize seminars, symposia, conferences on cutting edges issues and trends in socio-political and economic development as they affect persons with disability
Activities relevant to the conference of States Parties to the convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Our recent activities include the following: Interactive Forum with the Presidential Candidate of National Conscience Party Bashorun Dele Momodu on His Manifesto for Nigerians with Disabilities, Disability Roundtable on UBEC, Stakeholders’ Forum on Accessible Transport Services in Abuja; Disability Awareness Week (DAW 2010), Interactive Forum with the Chairman National Population Commission on Disability & 2006 Population Census, HIV & AIDS Outreach Program in (Ipokia, Abeokuta South, Ijebu-ode Local Government Areas of Ogun State; Ikeja and Surulere Local Governments of Lagos State); Advocacy Visits to Lagos and Ogun States Ministries of Health and Lagos State Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development; Advocacy Visits to Lagos and Ogun States AIDS Control Agencies, Interface with Support Groups on HIV & AIDS in Lagos & Ogun States; Training of Peer Educators in Lagos and Ogun States; Consultative Meetings with leaders of disability cluster groups. Other activities include: 2009 Disability Awareness Week; the Review of Seven Point Agenda and Its Impact on Nigerians with Disabilities; Campaign for Accessible Banking Halls/Services for Persons with Disabilities, Campaign for Accessible and Inclusive Public Transport System, Leadership Training Workshop For Persons with Disabilities, Awareness Raising On International Day For Persons with Disabilities, Training of Persons with Disabilities as Election Observers, Observation of 2007 General Elections, Public Presentation of our 2007 General Election Report among others.
