Purpose of the organization: To support governments, communities, funders, children and families to end the practice of institutionalising children.
Activities relevant to the conference of States Parties to the convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Lumos has been in the forefront of persuading the European union to incorporate compliance with the CRPD into regulations for the use of EU funding for social development.
Confirmation of the activities of the organization at the regional, national or international level: Founded and chaired the European Expert Group. Trained EC desk officers on de-institutionalisation. Supported governments in four countries to develop national action plans for replacing institutions with community based alternatives. Supported demonstration models with local and regional authorities in four countries.
