Advancement of Women

Affiliation with other organizations: TACSO, Shelter and Consultation Centers Convention, Civil Society Development Center, CEDAW Turkey, The founding members organized two meeting in October 2010 and June 2011 to which 30 women who are members of women’s CSOs being located in various parts of Turkey and who are both well known and influential in their fields. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the need for monitoring of implementation of gender equality policies, priority areas of monitoring, methods of monitoring, and the need for a separate formal organization which can guide, coordinate and work as a noodle point for monitoring. In short, the association in question has been established upon reaching at consensus on the issues mentioned above, getting consent from the participants of the meeting, and receiving promised intentions to actively participate in the monitoring processes. Each of the founding members has long and enduring experiences in women’s CSOs. Most of them have been actively involved in women’s movement and CSOs since 1980s when second wave of feminist movement emerged in Turkey.
Publications: Book titled “Model of Monitoring on the Mechanism for Combating Violence against Women” was published on March,2014.

There are also institutionalized women’s networks one of which is the coalition between the Women’s Platform (Coalition) for the Turkish Penal Code and the Executive Committee for NGO Forum on CEDAW-Turkey, representing overall 136 women’s CSOs. The coalition of the two networks prepares shadow reports to be submitted to the UN CEDAW Committee.
