Office of the Special Adviser on Africa

Purpose: Addressing Africa's acute staff shortage & major infrastructural deficiencies to mitigate risk of the on coming cancer diseases epidemic. Cancer diseases together with other non communicable diseases (Diabetes, Cardio vascular and Pulmonary diseases)will be the lead cause of mortality in Africa by 2030.
Illustrative Project: Currently, Cancer Africa is compiling, a public and freely accessible online database that will be the primary source providing information on current physician supply specializing on cancer treatment/care, local medical training institutions, cancer diagnosis/care facilities and palliative/hospice centers in each of the 54 countries in Africa. The database will also include estimated cost for screening, diagnosis, treatment and palliative care for some of the cancers prevalent locally within each African country. The overall goal of this activity is to provide accurate information to the medical community, cancer patients, specialists associations, policy makers and the general public on the trends and dynamics of the regional cancer treatment and care framework so as to better inform their decision making.
