Results of recent policy publications have been the recognition of Indigenous institutes are part of the postsecondary education system and eligible for equitable funding of our institutes to those of settler communities. These achievements have been accomplished in a context of reconciliation and decolonization of the education system. Our Indigenous system has demonstrated clear results for our learners where graduation rates far surpass those in the mainstream. Recognition of the Indigenous postsecondary education system in Ontario is a direct action in support of Article 14 of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous peoples. Our institutes support nation-building and the reclamation of INdigenous languages, governance practices and culture. |
