Mission statement:	As students and youths living in the most impoverished of cities, we recognize that this change will not come without a price or responsibility; therefore we did commit ourselves towards making a positive contribution to the future by taking environmental responsibility and promoting sustainable development in our daily lives through; 1. Respecting and caring for the community of life that sustains me, and protecting ecological integrity. a. Explore my local natural environment b. Support efforts to conserve natural resources and ecosystems c. Avoid products that are damaging to humans and the world d. Support and promote the respect of human rights 2. Promoting a culture of democracy, social justice, and peace a. Learn about international social, political, and environmental issues, and recognize how they are interconnected b. Advocate for the basic human right to clean, fresh air and water c. Make my voice heard through voting and social activism d. Respect everyone’s right to free speech and opinion e. Support efforts to use non-violence in conflict resolution f. Encourage my workplace to minimize damage to human and natural environments. g. Invest my savings in a socially and environmentally responsible manner h. Be an advocate for free and liberalized trade for the betterment of all peoples’ and nations 3. Reducing my careless attitude to environmental and human resources a. Be a campaigner for sexual abstinence as the panacea for HIV/AIDS b. Encourage the introduction of moral values curriculum to our schools, churches, mosques and general lifestyle c. Resist the urge to buy things I don’t need and understand the environmental and social impacts of things I do d. Reduce the amount of waste and garbage I generate e. Reduce my waste of freshwater f. Recycle and buy items that are made from recycled materials where possible g. Travel by foot, bike, carpool or train to reduce environmental pollution h. Learn how things are made, and where they come from, and to support technology that is less harmful i. Buy food that is produced locally and sustainably We also call on our elder generations and those in power to support and mentor us in our vision. To help us shape the present so that future citizens will not remember our generation as one of wasteful consumerism and social blindness. Today, we take responsibility so that the youths of tomorrow will remember our era as one of responsible living and positive change
