Mission statement:	Intercambios’ mission is to study and call attention to problems related to drug use, grounded in the globally accepted ethics of human rights, social commitment, and evidence-based approach. It is the leading organization in Argentina working to ensure the health and human rights of drug users through evidence-based programs. Intercambios is also the key harm reduction knowledge hub in Latin America – providing networking, advocacy, research, information sharing, skills building and capacity development to the region. Focus: We define drug related problems to the different issues associated with the demand and the supply of drugs, with the social and criminal control policies and their repercussion in social, cultural and personal life. In this sense, Intercambios also deals with HIV/AIDS associated with drug use. Intercambios believes that stigmatization and discrimination against drug users and drug use often leads to violations of human rights. We therefore work within the ethics of human rights, social engagement, and scientific rigor. Objectives: * To favor research development and studies about drug related problems from a scientific, interdisciplinary and ethical perspective. * To disseminate rigorous information about legal and illegal drugs as part of a coordinated effort to steer public opinion towards a more reflective and responsible vision of drug use and drug users. * To develop and provide resources to drug using communities, including professional outreach workers and peer educators. * To design, advise, implement, and evaluate prevention plans, programs and community interventions. * To develop a network of social services and resources that will provide access to comprehensive care for people who are affected by drug related problems. * To promote the permanent exchange, collaboration and cooperation between institutions, investigators and other social actors, in order to achieve the integration of networks and working teams. Working areas: Since its creation and in keeping with its institutional goals, Intercambios performs research, training, advocacy and outreach work, in cooperation with other national and international institutions, governmental or non- governmental organizations, universities and companies. Organizational structure:	Intercambios is directed and administered by the Board of Directors composed of five (5) official members that fill the following positions: President, Secretary, Treasurer, permanent Vocal and substitute Vocal. They are elected in the General Assemblies. The duration of each term is two (2) years and all are eligible for reelection. - There is a control body composed of a permanent Auditor and one Substitute. The duration of their term is two (2) years. There are two kinds of General Assemblies: Ordinary and Extraordinary. The Ordinary Assembly is completed once a year within the first four months (one hundred and twenty days) subsequent to year-end closing which is the 31st of December each year and in this active members: a) consider, adopt, or modify the Report, Balance Sheet, Inventory, Expenditure Account, and Resources and Auditor´s Report; b) elect the members of Board of Directors and the Auditors, c) discuss any other matter included in the order of the day; d) discuss matters proposed by a minimum of five percent (5%) of the members with the right to vote and presented to the Board of Directors within the thirty (30) days of closing the fiscal year. The Extraordinary Assemblies are called always when the Board of Directors considers it necessary or when it is requested by the Auditor or twenty percent of the members with a right to vote. The resolutions are adopted by the absolute majority of the votes cast. No member is allowed to have more than one vote and the members of the Board of Directors and the Auditor are not allowed to vote on items related to their management.
Number and type of members:	Intercambios has twenty active members. They are those who have voice and vote and may be elected to integrate the social bodies in any of their positions. The working team is composed of 17 seventeen professionals (psychologist, social workers, political scientist, lawer, sociologist, etc)
Affiliation with NGO networks:	International Drug Policy Consortium (IDPC), Latin American Harm Reduction Network (RELARD), Argentinean Forum of NGOs working in HIV.
