In accordance with its Statutes, the SSIHRL is composed of three main bodies, namely the General Assembly, the Executive Committee and the Scientific Board. 1. The General Assembly, which is made up of all the members of the SSIHRL (121). It is the sovereign body of the Society and, as such, establishes the general policy of the SSIHRL, ensures that its objectives are fulfilled, and debates and approves both the annual report and budget. 2. The Executive Committee is the managing body of the SSIHRL. It is made up of five members, namely: the President, the Vice-president, the Secretary General, the Treasurer and the Legal Advisor. They are elected by the General Assembly for a period of five years. The President of the Executive Committee is also the President of the SSIHRL and its legal representative. The Vice-president replaces the President in case of absence as a result of illness or any other reason, carrying out the same functions of the President. In normal circumstances, the Vice-president carries out the functions assigned to him or her by the President. The Secretary General is in charge of the administrative management of the SSIHRL and its staff. The Treasurer manages the accounts of the SSIHRL and is responsible for overseeing income and expenses, intervening in any financial operations with the approval of the President or the Secretary General. He or she raises and takes care of the funds of the SSIHRL. The Legal Adviser provides expert advice to the President and the Executive Committee on the legal impact of any decision they could consider to adopt in the context of their respective competences. 3. The Scientific Board is composed of five sound expert members from the Society appointed by the General Assembly for a renewable period of five years, upon proposal of the Executive Committee. It provides expert advice to the Executive Committee in matters of particular relevance for the IHRL. |

The SSIHRL has 121 members in Spain and Latin America, most of them lawyers and specialists in international human rights law. They include academics, lawyers, judges, prosecutors, staff members of international organizations, CSO members and other prominent professionals in the defence and promotion of the international human rights law. In accordance with the SSIHRL Statutes, members of the SSIHRL belong to four categories, as follows: The Founding members (3) signed in 2004 the first Statutes for the establishment of the current SSIHRL. The Ordinary members are IHRL professionals or researchers with wide-ranging experience, who support the aims of the SSIHRL and the inherent values of the international human rights law. The members of the Scientific Board (5) provide expert advice to the Executive Committee in matters of particular relevance for the IHRL. The Honorary members (10) are senior experts with outstanding professional careers in the development of IHRL, or belonging to institutions making exceptional contributions to the SSIHRL. |
