Mission statement:	Fondaterra - European foundation for sustainable territories Founded in September 2004 as a non-profit association, Fondaterra, European Foundation for Sustainable Territories, has been a partnership foundation of the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and the industrial groups EDF, GDF SUEZ and Vinci Construction since 16 April 2009. Fondaterra coordinates a unique network of multidisciplinary national, European and international institutions in the public and private sectors, federating skills in research, training services and the dissemination of knowledge and expertise around the subject of sustainable development of territories. It is a true center of excellence and European competitiveness, as an incubator of innovative projects for sustainable development, in 4 thematic fields: o Building efficiency o Sustainable mobility o Territorial ecology & smart cities o Adaptation to climate changes & social transition The 7 areas of action are : • Federate and enhance the public and private potentialities of research, of training and expertise, on the theme of sustainable development of territories. • Establish consortia capable of undertaking National, European and International projects on research, training and expertise. • Initiate methodological and technological innovations in the sustainable development area. • Transfer of techniques, methods, technologies and know-how. • Serve as a resource and expertise centre, capable to be quickly mobilized for researchers, teachers, busines¬ses, policymakers, media, associations, schools and the general public. • Assist in the creation of new engineering and service companies. • Participate in strengthening the attractiveness of territories. Fondaterra is a real source of innovation in the sustainable development field, driving the territorial economy.

Organizational structure:	Fondaterra is a partnership foundation since 2009, after having been an association for 5 years. It is constituted by 4 founder members (one university - University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, 3 industrial groups - EDF, GDF SUEZ and Vinci Construction). The other partners also participate by being represented in the different boards, as they are currently present in the foundation’s projects. Thus it is a private-public foundation but acting for public interest, which is written in its legal statuses. The foundation is run by a board of directors, who vote its annual programs. A scientific committee meets 2 times a year in order to consider projects and give some advices. It has a consultative function. On the executive field, the foundation is managed by a director working with 4 project managers, responsible for each field of development.
Number and type of members:	more than 70 public and private multidisciplinary institutions: SMEs, large compagnies, laboratories, assiociations, universities, regional and local authorities, etc.
