Organizational structure: ITS Rio’s activities are monitored by an independent board whose members have no financial stake in the Institute’s operations. The ITS board has full governance authority, and it has the duty to approve salary scales, financial policies and personnel policies in line with Brazilian law and the practices of international NGOs. It is expected that Board members will serve for periods of three years, renewable, and that election will be staggered such that at least several board members are up for re-election of replacement every year. The Executive Committee is expected to meet quarterly to review finances, operations and approve necessary policies. The Executive Director will serve as an ex-officio member of the Board and Executive Committee. We also have an Accounting Council that observes and approves the year budget. ITS has currently 4 directors, that are responsible for making strategic decisions and reports to the board. They also oversee major programs/projects/divisions. The institute has also a Project Director and Project Leaders/Researchers that oversee projects, programs or large efforts within these. We also have a Finance Manager, that takes care of the practical details of payments and implementing the systems necessary to track grant and contract revenues and expenditures, and administrative and research assistances. We hold team meetings every week and a strategic matrix assists us in monitoring individual goals and organizational goals and milestones. In addition, we have a shared schedule and a methodology for co creating planning so that all employees can contribute to projects.
