Sustainable Development

Major group affiliation:
  • Scientific and technological communities
  • Non-governmental organization
Affiliation with other organizations: ITS Rio is a founding member and the current administrative lead of the NoC (Network of Centers). NoC is a group of academic centers launched in 2012, within an international Symposium on Internet-Driven Developments: Structural Changes and Tipping Points (SCTP), hosted by the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. The Network of Centers is a collaborative initiative among academic institutions with a focus on interdisciplinary research on the development, social impact, policy implications, and legal issues concerning the Internet. This collective aims to increase interoperability between participating centers in order to stimulate the creation of new cross-national, cross-disciplinary conversation, debate, teaching, learning, and engagement regarding the most pressing questions around new technologies, social change, and related policy and regulatory developments.
Publications: Since the beginning of its work as a think tank, ITS Rio has accumulated more than 30 own publications resulting from studies on topics that have recently been on the agenda, under dispute or that still keep being discussed on civil and political spheres. ITS Rio makes applied researches. It dialogues with the contemporary context, with the current demands of a networked society and the daily lives of thousands of Brazilians and foreigners. Most publications are available on the online platform of the Institute and licensed under Creative Commons. ITS Rio deems accessible and open knowledge as an urgency rather just as a trend.
