The Young Women’s Christian Association of Australia (YWCA Australia) is a member of the World Young Women’s Christian Association (World YWCA) and operates under the Association’s conditions for affiliation. Our purpose and programs are consistent with those of the World YWCA. YWCA Australia is in substantial compliance with their standards of good management and accountability and the constitution of the YWCA Australia meets with the approval of the World YWCA. YWCA Australia is the national association of YWCAs in Australia. YWCA Australia is governed by the YWCA Australia Board, establishing the strategic directions and policies that guide all our work. The Board also ensures that YWCA Australia is soundly governed and managed for the benefit of all. The YWCA Australia Board has representatives from YWCA Australia's large Member Associations (YWCA of Adelaide, YWCA of Canberra, YWCA Queensland, YWCA of Darwin, YWCA NSW and YWCA Victoria) and one member representing the interests of all the smaller YWCA associations (Albury-Wodonga, Broken Hill, Hunter Region, and Perth, as well as Local Groups in Cairns, Port Pirie and Rockhampton). YWCA Australia's Executive Director, supported by our staff team, manages the day to day operations of the organisation on the delegated authority of the Board. YWCA Australia’s Board also has a President and Treasurer, elected by our members at our three-yearly Convention (which was last held in November 2009). The next Convention will be held in November 2012. As part of our commitment to young women's leadership and in compliance with the constitution of the World YWCA, 30 percent of YWCA Australia's Board members must be 30 and under. YWCA Australia’s membership consists of the Local Associations, State Organisations and Local Groups within Australia (Member Associations) and our Honorary Life Members. YWCA Member Associations are committed to improving the lives of women and girls, their families and communities. Our 13 Member Associations are the YWCA of Adelaide, YWCA of Albury-Wodonga, YWCA of Broken Hill, YWCA of Cairns, YWCA of Canberra, YWCA of Darwin, YWCA Hunter Region, YWCA NSW, YWCA of Perth, YWCA of Port Pirie, YWCA Queensland, YWCA of Rockhampton and YWCA Victoria. YWCA Australia Honorary Life Members are women who have made, and continue to make, significant contributions to the work of the YWCA in Australia, of which we currently have 24. Honorary Life Members are given the opportunity to contribute to YWCA Australia at a governance level with their non-voting participation at our Annual General Meetings.
