Organizational structure: The Gaia Foundation is small, women-led team, with an innovative structure that combines office and distance-working and enjoys minimum hierarchy. The core team are all qualified to post-graduate level or equivalent, and each brings a unique blend of grassroots and hands-on experience in their different interest areas - Seed, Food & Climate Change Resilience, Earth Jurisprudence, Sacred Lands & Waters, and Beyond Extractivism. A Finance Manager and Finance Assistant are responsible for the efficient and transparent financial control for the organisation, as well as support and capacity-building for partners in financial management. The organisation also benefits from a rotation of interns who provide support over a six-month period; in turn they receive experience in project work or research relating to their area of interest. The Gaia Foundation is established under a Trustee Deed. A Board of seven Trustees is responsible for monitoring policy and performance, for due diligence, and monthly assessments of the organization’s financial and fundraising outlook. Trustees are selected on the basis of their experience and skillset, from finance through to campaigning, and their affinity with the organization’s approach. Of equal importance, for policy and strategic direction, the Gaia team and Trustees are accompanied by an international group of well-respected advisors (Gaia’s international Associates and Advisors) who are luminaries and activists for ecological and social justice.
