Organizational structure: The GCP acts as an umbrella structure connecting the alliance of organisations willing to participate in joint collaborative projects to be included as part of its programme of exploring nature’s last biological frontier. The GCP and its Secretariat is guided by the GCP Steering Committee which is made up of representatives of organisations within the GCP alliance. The Secretariat of the GCP, led by Andrew Mitchell, is hosted by the Global Canopy Foundation based in Oxford, UK. This is the primary co-ordinating office for the GCP. The Global Canopy Foundation, is governed by a Board of Trustees and was created to help support the GCP. It also acts as a charitable fundraising vehicle for the GCP. The Global Canopy Foundation is a UK registered Charity (No1089110) and a Company Limited by Guarantee (No. 4293417). The GCP Secretariat works in close collaboration with The International Canopy Network (ICAN), which has been the lead organisation in raising the profile of canopy studies worldwide for nearly a decade. ICAN has a unique existing network of contacts and expertise, especially in the US. ICAN is a US registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organisation.
