Mission statement:	Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) is a non-partisan, women’s organization operating in Uganda with its head office in Kampala. FOWODE grew out of the Women’s Caucus of the 1994 – 1995 Constituent Assembly (CA) that debated and passed the 1995 Constitution. During the Assembly, the women delegates used the Caucus to increase their political clout, broaden the base of support for women’s issues and advocate for a gender-sensitive Constitution in all aspects. The success of the Women’s Caucus paved way for the formation of FOWODE as a non-governmental organization to continue with what had been started in the CA and to provide women in leadership positions with an organized platform for learning, networking, sharing experiences and also advocating for gender equity and equality in decision making processes. FOWODE is a membership organization and is open to women and men who share our values and goals of respect for women’s rights as human rights, respect for diversity, gender equality and equity, transparency and accountability, integrity and excellence. Our vision is to see a just and fair society where women and men equally participate in and benefit from decision making processes. We contribute to the achievement of this vision by implementing our mission which is “to promote gender equality in all areas of decision making through advocacy, training, research and publications” FOWODE has continued to be a pacesetter in promoting gender equality and women’s leadership in the country. Whereas we primarily focuses on women’s issues, FOWODE also seeks gender equality and thus involves men in all aspects of its work. FOWODE has strategically positioned itself as a champion for women’s rights protection, participation in political decision making and engaging in issues of macroeconomic governance such as gender responsive budgeting (GRB). The organization has curved a strategic niche and created a brand around these two issues. FOWODE has qualified program staff at its headquarters and field level with expertise in the fields of gender and development, human rights, economics, governance. FOWODE develops, adapts and utilizes tools that are appropriate for the context and has a robust monitoring and evaluation system to track progress and promote learning. FOWODE has in place systems, policies and procedures that guide in the delivery of the organization’s commitments.
