Mission statement:	AFRICAN WOMEN NETWORK FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT “GENDER AT THE SERVICE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA” I- What is REFADD? Created in June 1999, in Equatorial Guinea, alongside the second edition of the Conference on Central African Moist Forest Ecosystems “CEFDHAC”, the African Women Network for Sustainable Development (REFADD) is a network of Non Governmental Organisations made up mainly of women, working toward the sustainable management of natural resources. It also intervenes in the formulation, execution and monitoring of conservation and development projects in the Central African sub region. REFADD member countries are Burundi, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. II- ITS VISION Sustainable management of natural resources taking into consideration gender aspect in the formulation, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of national and regional sustainable development programmes. III- ITS MISSION Promote the effective participation of African Women in sustainable management through their involvement in programmes aimed at sustainable management of natural resources and biodiversity conservation in Central Africa. IV- OBJECTIVES OF REFADD • Identify strategies to foster the participation of NGOs (predominantly female) in the formulation, accomplishment and monitoring of national and regional sustainable development programmes, • Raise awareness of mankind on the crucial role women can play in the sustainable management of natural resources, • Promote capacity building of NGOs through training and informing them, in a bid to enhance communication, dialogue and synergies between NGOs and actors involved in the sustainable management of natural resources in Central Africa, • Reconcile conservation needs to development by promoting alternative activities and capacity building of members (financial, technical and institutional support), • Develop sustainable fund raising strategies, • Share lessons learnt at national, sub regional and international levels.
