Mission statement:	Article 36 is a not-for-profit organisation working to prevent the unintended, unnecessary or unacceptable harm caused by certain weapons. Article 36 promotes civil society partnerships to respond to harm caused by existing weapons and to build a stronger framework to prevent harm as weapons are used or developed in the future. The four organisational objectives for Article 36 are: 1) To assess, document and analyse the humanitarian problems and risks associated with the use of specific weapon technologies, in general and in certain contexts; 2) To inform relevant actors within governments, civil society and the media of the problems and risks associated with the use of specific types of weapons, and to advocate responses in practice, policy and law; 3) To strengthen national practice and policy, and develop new international standards, for analysis of the humanitarian risks associated with specific weapon technologies and for remedial action; and 4) To identify, promote and monitor effective practical, political and legal responses to the problems caused by specific weapon technologies. Article 36 undertakes research, policy work and advocacy to achieve these objectives.

Organizational structure:	Article 36 was established by Richard Moyes (Managing Director) and Thomas Nash n 2011 and is incorporated in the UK as a not-for-profit company (Reg No. 07755941). It employs three additional members of staff, Laura Boillot (Project Manager), Magnus Løvold and Elizabeth Minor. It also contracts consultants on a regular basis. It is overseen by a Board of Directors with backgrounds in advocacy, law, academia and finance.
