Mission statement:	The Program for Society and the Environment creates a home at the University of Maryland for research on the study of society-environment. The Program is grounded in Maryland’s strategic plan priorities to “be a force in fostering greater understanding of human relations and the natural environment.” This Program will create a hub for social scientists and students who study all aspects of the society-environment relationship. PSE functions as a research network to bring together scholars conducting policy-relevant research on topics related to environment and sustainable development. In turn, PSE aims to communicate these findings to a broader community of policy-makers and academics.

Organizational structure:	PSE is an inter-disciplinary research program within the University of Maryland. It is directed by Dr. Dana Fisher, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology.
Number and type of members:	PSE has 12 affiliated scholars, 3 visiting researchers, and 3 graduate fellows.
Funding structure:	Donations and grants from domestic sources
