The Foundation Antonio Meneghetti is structured through Deliberative Council, Directive Council and Fiscal Council. It is an institution of private characteristic according to the Brazilian law of Foundations. It has educational, cultural finalities as to promote humanist culture, according to the principles of the United Nations. Among the actions that it has already performed, are the Congress Responsibility and Reciprocity - Social Values for a Sustainable Economy (www.reciprocidade.org.br), which brought together over 700 people – among children, youth, adults and seniors - to discuss with voices of the private, public, third sector and academy a range of thematic regarding sustainability, social responsibility and also international initiatives such as the UN Academic Impact. One of the lectures of the Congress was given by Ms. Nathalie Leroy, from the Senior Public Information Officer with the United Nations Academic Impact Programme, in the Outreach Division, United Nations Department of Public Information. The Congress also supported the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, UN Academic Impact, UN Global Compact and the UNCSD (as part of the calendar of events organized by the major groups in preparation to the Rio+20 - http://www.uncsd2012.org/rio20/index.php?page=view&type=13&nr=374&menu=27). Another action is the project Friends of the Guitar, which takes free classes of guitar to students of the public high school of São João do Polêsine (city which is close to the headquarters of the Foundation). Another project was the event “Brazil of the Millennium in Paris”, which took several Brazilian post graduate students to present their projects related to the 8 Millennium Development Goals of the UN to be presented to a board of expert on the Economic, Environmental and Social Council of France in 2010. The Foundation, in 2012, is initiating a wide range of projects such as: free cinema sessions for the community of the region of the Fourth Colony of Italian Immigration of Rio Grande do Sul (where the headquarters of the Foundation is located); promotion of a young orchestra to be composed by the children from the public basic schools and high schools of the region, promotion of new congresses and conferences in partnership with the Faculty Antonio Meneghetti (www.faculdadeam.edu.br) – these events are bringing to the community of the region knowledge regarding the MDGs and the actions of the UN; promotion of courses of life long learning for teachers of the public schools of the city of Restinga Sêca as part of a bigger project called School Light which is developed by the Mayor House of Restinga Sêca, as well as, by the sectional of the Public Ministry of Brazil responsible for this region. Also the Foundation is organizing a post graduate course on cultural projects in order to foster the development of new cultural projects on the countryside region of Brazil where it is located. In 2012, another goal is the continuation of some very well succeeded projects kept with the support of the Foundation and in partnership with some other entities. These are the Project Flute (http://vimeo.com/32932822), which brings the teaching of sweet flute to 150 children of basic schools of the public network of the city of São João do Polêsine. Also the support of the Foundation to Project OIKOS (www.oikos.com.br), which brings education about environment to schools of the region where the entity is located, supports activities of recycling of garbage, destination of batteries to the production of ink, and reforestation. Among the projects that are already in the calendar of events of the Foundation for this year is the seminar “OIKOS Dialogues: the environment and the future of the planet”, which will discuss questions related to the environment in the beginning of June, aiming to help to prepare the population of the region regarding the UNCSD thematic. |
Number and type of members: |
Its members are 13 authorities responsible for its councils and one employee as Secretary, besides a volunteer team of communication professionals and teachers which are responsible for each individual project, and also the students of the projects kept by the Foundation. The members, so called councilors, are volunteers, being authorities recognized in their fields of action by academic and business well succeeded enterprises. Internationally, the Foundation is a partner of the International Association of Ontopsychology (www.ontopsicologia.org), which is a NGO in consultative status with the ECOSOC of the UN. It is important to notice that the actions performed by the Foundation Antonio Meneghetti already reach a wide number of people in Brazil and abroad. That happens through means of congresses, support to local projects, through the academic community of its partner institution of higher education (the Antonio Meneghetti Faculdade - www.faculdadeam.edu.br) and also courses offered in the region that benefits hundreds of people. In all its projects, it has as criteria the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The university, which is one of the main partners of the Foundation is an institution which was born, in 2008, in the countryside of the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, offering graduation and post-graduate courses to all the community of the region, where there was no other option such as this one before. Nowadays youth of the region have access to higher education courses and can still be living in and helping the communities where they are from. It is also important to notice that all projects of social responsibility developed by the university have also always had as criteria the 8 MDGs and now the SDGs of the UN. That´s why the university today is an academic partner of the Global Compact (http://www.unglobalcompact.org/participant/13128-Antonio-Meneghetti-Faculdade), member of the UN Academic Impact (http://academicimpact.org/currentmemberlist.pdf) and has participated of the UN Year of Youth (http://social.un.org/absolutewc/?e=348&c=0). The Faculty also maintains a line of research called “Fostering of Leaderships, Entrepreneurship and Sustainability” (http://faculdadeam.edu.br/pesquisa/linha-de-pesquisa-1-0-34-7-0-1), which stimulate projects regarding the MDGs. The Foundation is one of the main partners of the Faculty because it plays an important role on counseling its academic community regarding the actions of culture and education that take place and how they can help improve the quality of life and the sustainable development of the region. Also the place where the Antonio Meneghetti Faculdade and Foundation Antonio Meneghetti are located has been born out of a project of sustainable development. The district Recanto Maestro (www.recantomaestro.com.br) is located among the cities of São João do Polêsine and Restinga Sêca, on the countryside of Rio Grande do Sul. It begun activities in 1988 and has grown to become a district where nowadays hundreds of people live and work. This project was founded by the International Association of Ontopsychology in partnership with the Brazilian Association of Ontopsychology (www.ontopsicologia.org.br). The project of Recanto Maestro was presented, in 2007, at the Innovation Fair of the Annual Ministerial Review of the ECOSOC of the UN as one project that helps the achievement of the MDGs (http://amrif.blogspot.com/2007/05/history-of-creation-and-development-of.html). The story of this place has been already theme of a documentary promoted with the support of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture. A film called “De um lugar abandonado à Recanto Maestro: Centro de Arte e Cultura Humanista”. That´s the context in which the Foundation Antonio Meneghetti is placed and also the reason why its actions reach a wide number of people. |
