Mission statement:
CONIN seeks to combat child malnutrition by addressing its causes, especially addressing extreme poverty. Its work focuses on prevention and recovery of malnourished children. Malnutrition is one of the most harmful problems in Argentina, as well as in other middle-income countries. It affects current child´s rights, future generations and national development. The formation of the central nervous system is determined in the first 2 years of life. If during this time the child receives no food and necessary stimulation, brain growth stops, affecting learning ability. Due to malnutrition (or related causes), in Argentina every two hour dies a child under 5 years old, and there are 260,000 children -under the same age- suffering symptoms of malnutrition. Moreover, approximately 330,000 Argentine families suffer from hunger. In order to address this issue, CONIN aim at strength the family and guarantee that it will receive comprehensive protection and support (Universal Declaration of Human Rights, article 16.3.) and at promoting UNCRC application. CONIN also works for protecting maternity and motherhood, especially among young mother. The role of women in the upbringing of children cannot be replaced. Hence, the effective access of the mother and the child to nutrition, health services, and education it’s essential to guarantee appropriate child nutrition.
