These organizations is presently working in collaboration with the public affairs section of the United States Embassy in Freetown, Star Radio media House, Forum of Sierra Leonean youth Network, Democracy Sierra Leone and other non-governmental organizations (NGO’S) to implement joint programs in areas like education, technology (computer training), youths and communities empowerments; Our organizations tend to address related community and national youth issues of the war affected communities through holistic, community-based approaches; addressing the problems of war affected young people. Movement for Youth and Children’s Rights Sierra Leone was founded in late 2008 in Freetown, Sierra Leone, by Dominic .M. Macavoray, through the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Ministry of Development and Economic Planning, Ministry of Education, youth and Sport and the Freetown City Council. Movement for youth and Children’s Right is a nonprofit Organization that uses creativity and technology to address human rights (including women and children's rights), environmental rights; enhance peace and sustainable development in Sierra Leone, whilst seeking to alleviate poverty through creative approaches. It was founded by Arie Vander Reyden and Clare Maxwell who have been instrumental in the original planning and implementation of the project to create a sustainable financial organization to support the children and the International friends from the NVC Training 2009 USA, for the purpose of helping the people of Sierra Leone rebuild their lives and establish a society based on nonviolent communication, following a decade of war and violence. Our program gives hope to the Children and youths for a future of sustainable development and human dignity by promoting friendship, peace, and collaboration." Our efforts in achieving this involves promoting social justice legislature, conducting non-violence workshops for people in Sierra Leone and organizing peace clubs in Schools, engaging women and young people in technology for global interaction and education, creativity and arts that foster peace, human rights and social justice. As a registered Non-Governmental Organization, to date, Movement for youth and Children’s Rights Sierra Leone have had to operate with very little capital, drastically limiting its reach and scope. Much of the Volunteers required have to be on a volunteer-basis, with Facilitators having to subsidize time and cost for their own operations voluntarily. The Volunteer at MYCR-Sierra Leone established has hard-earned experience also in addressing the pressing need for psychosocial healing and rehabilitation of former child soldiers and other war-affected youth in the country. Recognizing the immense impact that empowering youth with computer and ICT, (Information and Communications Technology), skills training had on healing and rehabilitation, the organisation places emphasis on creating an education center for affected youth with computers and as used PC’s, as well as a basic video and music recording studio. The Movement for youth and Children’s Rights Administration and Funding is managed by the National Coordinator and Finance and Administrative Officer. The small but Volunteer Staff, carries out the Organization communication and general administration. The Organisation work is further enriched by a steady flow of student interns.
