Mission statement:	Global Music & Wellness (GMW) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization with a mission to promote a culture of wellness by actively engaging individuals of all ages in two evidence-based recreational music making wellness programs, wellness through visual art, performing art, photography, painting, and other art forms. The two fun-filled music programs; Clavinova Connection and HealthRHYTHMS are not about mastering an instrument, and it is not about music therapy. Rather, it is about recreational music making which provides individuals the opportunity to have fun, creatively express themselves on a musical instrument, make new friends, build confidence, and empower people to reach beyond their perceived boundaries. Our work began in 2008, when we partnered with the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) to bring the evidence-based recreational music making wellness program; Clavinova Connection to Southwestern Ohio. The Clavinova is a digital piano. Barry Bittman, MD, neurologist, innovator, and researcher has demonstrated through his peer-reviewed research that 1-hour of engaging in the program strengthens the immune system. Based on our success of introducing the program to older adults, we founded the Cincinnati Music & Wellness Coalition (CMWC) by bringing together over 30 organizations, universities, hospitals, physicians, musicians, and non-profits serving special populations. Presently, CMWC consists of 80 organizations from cities in 6 states. CMWC is the first community-wide recreational music making coalition in the US. One of the two signature events of CMWC is: the annual Clavinova Connection fundraiser which has resulted in the program being introduced to child & and adolescent psychiatry, developmentally disabled, older adults, and veterans. Our second signature event is the Annual Music & Medicine Conference, which is a one-day educational forum, which brings national and international physicians, researchers, and musicians, to present on the power of music and the arts as a healing modality. In 2012, the Ohio Dept of Job & Family Services designated GMW as administrator/fiscal agent of the older refugee program. We started by offering basic food necessities, transportation, physical fitness, and emotional wellness programs to reduce depression, loneliness, and isolation of older refugees. Through our wellness programs we began to see transformations, which included: increase in self-esteem, empowerment, increase in socialization, reduction in depression and anxiety, along with a host of psychosocial benefits. In 2015, through a grant from the Ohio Arts Council we were able to hold an event: Wellness through Art Forms at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Refugee elders and youth engaged in cultural dance and song, Bhutanese, Nepali, Rwandan and Burundi older refugees were taught beaded jewelry making, how to make small felt purses, and family quilts. They shared their life journeys through these quilts. We are also currently working with the Rwandan Community of Dayton Ohio to apply for their tax exempt status and are providing strategic planning training and board development.

In 2008, we founded the Cincinnati Music & Wellness Coalition, the first community-wide recreational music making wellness coalition in the US. Over 80 organizations from cities in 6 states come together for a common purpose of helping vulnerable populations take an active and meaningful role in their health and well-being. Members consist of hospitals, universities, senior care facilities, organizations serving developmentally disabled, at-risk youth, brain-injured children, and individuals recovering from mental health and substance abuse. GMW is governed by a board of 4 directors consisting of a board chair, treasurer, secretary and director. They provide expertise in the professions of medical, legal, finance, and pharmaceutical.
Number and type of members:	As mentioned above, members of the Cincinnati Music & Wellness Coalition bring diverse backgrounds to GMW. The 80 organizations from cities in 6 US states serve older adults, developmentally disabled, at-risk youth, refugees, ethnic & cultural groups, and individuals recovering from mental health and substance abuse.
