Mission statement:
The ASHANINKA ASSOCIATION OF THE AMÔNIA RIVER, APIWTXA is an organization which, following the demarcation of our indigenous territory, serves to protect and preserve the Ashaninka culture, the integrity of our territory and the rich bio-diversity of our ecosystem since 1993. As a result of our longstanding efforts to, among others, advance ecologically sustainable solutions to local and regional problems, we have recently been awarded the UN Equator Prize 2017. Including the Ashaninka of Peru, our indigenous tribe counts around 120.000 people, representing the largest indigenous group in South America and one of the few tribes to continues to preserve its autonomy and traditions.
