Organizational structure: Board and Staff The organisational structure the EFRJ consists of a European Board and the operational Secretariat (located in Leuven, Belgium). The board consists of 9 members representing different regions of Europe, and including a chair, a vice-chair, a secretary and a treasurer. The latter 4 members together with the Executive Director form the Executive Committee of the EFRJ. The board is representing at least 6 different European countries. In this respect the members of the different regions are involved in the decision-making process of the EFRJ. The operational Secretariat of the EFRJ is based in Leuven, Belgium and consists currently of the Executive Director (ED), the Policy Officer (PO), the Financial & Administrative Officer (FAO), and the Communications & Events Officer (C&EO). Committees and Working Groups Committees are groups of members appointed to work on specific areas, such as practice and training, research, information and communication. Working groups also consist of members, but they are convened by the Board to perform a specific task or produce a specific outcome in a limited timeframe. The EFRJ has currently 4 committees (Practice and Training, Editorial, Values and Standards for RJ and Research) and 2 working groups (Restorative Cities and Radicalisation). Decision making The main decision making body of the EFRJ is the Annual General Meeting of the members. The Board meets at least twice a year and takes decisions on strategical levels while the operational work is done by the Secretariat.
Number and type of members: Currently the EFRJ has around 450 members, individual as well as organisational ones. Since its inception the role of individual members of the EFRJ has been pivotal in the development and growth of restorative justice in many European countries. To date, the EFRJ is still honouring and acknowledging the role of individual leaders and pioneers. Thus individual membership will remain an important membership category. As restorative justice has developed steadily in several European jurisdictions, organisational members have become a more important category of members for the EFRJ. This is also driven by the objective to consolidate the good practice, to improve quality standards and to sustain structural cooperation with national non-governmental and governmental organisations. In the recent years a growing number of organisations joined the EFRJ as members.
Affiliation with NGO networks: The EFRJ is part of the Criminal Justice Platform Europe in which it cooperates with the Confederation of European Probation (CEP) and the European Organisation of Prison and Correctional Services (EuroPris).
