| Purpose: | The ISS is an applied policy research institute. |
| Illustrative Project: | During 1996, ISS carried out a field survey at the request of the OAU on peace-keeping training capabilities of 8 African counries. Many of the recommendations of this report were subsequently contained in the second OAU Chiefs-of-Staff meeting held in Harare in 1997. |
