Office of the Special Adviser on Africa |
Purpose: |
To facilitate the establishment of a people's development movement, empower the marginalised through animation to take up their developmental aspiration into their own hands. As an organisation involved in policy advocacy, it is engaged in policy analysis and reviews. It aims to engage policy makers on policy reviews, formulation and implementation that would promote and ensure respect for human rights. |
Illustrative Project: |
Through its policy advocacy programme unit, the organisation has been able to establish a national advocacy platform to facilitate and influence policy review or reformation as part of its just mining campaign. As a result, the government recently put into place a policy where .75 percent of the 3 percent paid to government from the sales of diamonds is made available to mining communities through a recently established community development fund. We have also presented to the government a position paper on the existing mining policy, concessions given to mining companies and support for small scale or artisanal mining. |
