Office of the Special Adviser on Africa

Purpose: To create a platform for women to network through workshops, seminars and conferences; promote non-traditional exports and the use of appropriate affordable technology to enhance products of women; expand women's businesses in order to create jobs and reduce unemployment; promote intra African and inter-continental trade.
Illustrative Project: Establishment of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy where university graduates and school leavers are trained to become self-employed to eradicate poverty and social ills; activities that promote intra African and inter-Continental trade was the First Global Women Entrepreneurs Trade Fair, an event which brought together more than 600 participants from 35 African countries, USA, Asia, the Caribbean, eight UN Agencies and the World Bank family. The association works closely with the UN office of the Special Coordinator for African and the Least Developed Countries for the strengthening of African women in the informal sector and in microcredit. It participated in the mid-term review of UN-NADAF (the United Nations New Agenda for the Development of Africa in the 1990s).
