Affiliation with other organizations: "Since it was formed, PDNK has undertaken several initiatives including the launch of district forums, organized and sponsored pastoralists in issue based workshops and open declaration making forums, trainings on rights based approaches, policy and legal advocacy, including undertaking Civic Education exercises. It has also engaged several media organizations including BBC, Bloomberg TV, CNN, Voice of America, Associated Press and several Kenya media houses on issues that are central to pastoralists. PDNK also works very closely with other local partners. For example, it is the current chair of Kenya Rangelands Coalition, a member of the steering committee of the Kenya Pastoralist Week, a member of the national steering committee on Climate Change and the Redd+ process, a founder member of the East Africa Working Group on Pastoralism, a member of the Global Multi Stakeholder Platform for Livestock and a co-convener of the Minorities and Indigenous Peoples Thematic group under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), the Vice Chair of the IGAD Civil Society Forum membres and a focal point in Kenya for the African Commissions’ Working Group on Indigenous Populations/ in Africa (WGIP) among others. PDNK has been working with and received a lot of support from various donors and development support organisations both local and international. It has partnered variously with CORDAID, Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV), Oxfam GB, UNIFEM, UNDP, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Arid Lands Resource Management Programme, Committee of Experts on Constitutional Review (COE), UNESCO, International Work Group on Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA), American Jewish World Service, First Peoples Worldwide, UNESCO, Ministry of Internal Security, Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Ministry for the Development of Northern Kenya and other Arid Lands, various committees of parliament amongst others. Amongst its main local partners are; Regional Pastoral Livelihoods Advocacy Project (REGLAP), Centre for Minority Rights Development (CEMIRIDE), Pastoralist Parliamentary Group (PPG), South Rift Association of Land Owners (SORALO), African Conservation Centre (ACC), Mainyoito Pastoralist Integrated Development Organisation (MPIDO), Endorois Welfare Council (ECW), League of Pastoralist Women of Kenya (LPWK), Ogiek Peoples Development Programme (OPDP), World Initiative for Sustainable Pastoralism (WISP), Livestock Policy Initiative of IGAD, IUCN, RECONCILE, KNCHR, KHRC, Kenya Land Alliance (KLA), Dignity International(Malaysia), Uganda Land Alliance, PINGOs (Tanzania) amongst others."(https://www.pdnkenya.org/index.php/about-us/211-pdnk-initiatives)

Purpose of the organization: "Its mission is to lobby for the inclusion of the pastoralist agenda in mainstream development with the vision of a prosperous pastoralist society." "DNKs overrearching Strategic objectives have been: To promote the formulation and adoption of adequate and favourable policies and statutes that enhance the livelihood of pastoralists. To advocate for adequate and equitable allocation of resources to enhance pastoralists’ livelihoods and wellbeing in Kenya. To build and strengthen linkages with like-minded organisations and institutions to create a critical mass to drive the pastoralist agenda both nationally and internationally especially on mega infrastructural and extractive projects. Confirmation of the activities of the organization at the regional, national or international level: "Currently PDNK is implementing various projects supported by partners, these include; Cordaid: Making devolution work in addressing pastoralist conflicts in Kenya IWGIA: Consolidating Kenya’s Indigenous Peoples Universal Periodic Review and ILO 169 efforts American Jewish World Service: securing the rights of indigenous communities within the understanding of Article 56, read together with Article 260 that define marginalized communities rights in the context of the on-going LAPSSET project First Peoples Worldwide: Training of Maa Council of Elders on Articles 67(2)(f) and159(3) of the constitution on their roles and responsibilities Recent recognitions and Awards; PDNK has been variously recognised for its work in promoting the livelihoods and wellbeing of pastoralist communities in Kenya. In 2011 the organization received a certificate of recognition from UNDP for its work after undertaking a training of senior Police officers and community representatives in Samburu County on Rights Based Approaches in Policing after an outcry by the local community on violation of their rights during disarmament exercises in the area. In 2010 PDNK was awarded a certificate by the Committee of Experts on Constitutional Review in recognition of providing civic education on the proposed constitution in Turkana, Pokot, Samburu and Marakwet Counties. In 2012 PDNK was awarded a certificate by the Global Veterans for Peace (Glovepa International) in recognition of its role in fostering peace and cohesion among pastoralist communities in Kenya In 2013 PDNK received a certificate of appreciation from the Kenya Pastoralist Week Secretariat in recognition of its role in planning and implementing the Kenya Pastoralist Week for the past 10 years."
