Involvement in UN Partnerships: Yes
If yes, explain in detail: Since 2004 our Chief Executive has been the main UN representative at Geneva for the Planetary Association for Clean Energy. We therefore fully represented PACE and have contributed to their work. However, when making proposals related to environmental matter we did so spearately as the Foundation for Gaia, as any NGO from the 'outside'. However, as what we proposed was considered to be relevant, we were asked to do so under PACE so that it could be used officially. This we have done. But it also made us aware that there was a need for NGOs with a specific environmental mandate, especially at these times of intensified debate about our environment and climate change. We have contributed to the MDG debate, to Financing for Development when our proposal was published on their website as a susbstantive input for the Follow-up International Conference on Financing for Development to Review the Implementation of the Monterrey Consensus, that will be held in Doha, Qatar, from 29 November to 2 December 2008. Mrs Vita de Waal (GAIA's Executive) is also a member of the Specialist Group on Cultural and Spiritual Values of Protected Areas (through IUCN, WCPA, CSVPA) working with UNEP and UNESCO. Mrs de Waal is currently Chair of the NGO (CoNGO) Committee CSVGC in Geneva and we (CSVGC) have organised a side-event during the 11th Session of the Human Right Council in 2009 on the Environment with the Foundation for Gaia bringing in all the speakers and paying for their travel expenses etc.
