Sustainable Development

Major group affiliation:
  • Non-governmental organization
Involvement in UN Partnerships: Yes
If yes, explain in detail: We're interested in developing partnerships, particularly around promoting sustainable consumption and production, as we enter the CSD 18 and 19 cycle.
Affiliation with other organizations: We've worked with a number of NGOs through the UN Commission on Sustainable Development, including ANPED, Consumers International and many NGOs from around the world involved in the UN CSD and Marrakech Process. We have developed a close working relationship with UNEP-DTIE around the Marrakech Process; we have been actively involved in providing feedback to the draft 10 Year Framework of Programmes, and have been invited by UNEP to co-facilitate the 3rd International Expert Meeting held in Stockholm, Sweden (June 2007). We have also participated in the North American Regional Roundtable on SCP held in Washington, DC, in November 2008. As well, we are working with the Canadian Federal Government on sustainable consumption and production. We are part of a 12-person Advisory Committee to the Government on helping develop a National Sustainable Consumption and Production Framework.
Publications: We have recently published the Eco-Strata Guide: A Green Guide for Existing Multi-Family Dwellings in Metro Vancouver (April 2009), and created an associated website: http://www.eco-strata.com/ We have also completed a major study for Industry Canada's Office of Consumer Affairs on sustainable consumption at the household level. The report explores concepts and makes a number of key recommendations to the Federal Government on how it can support sustainable household consumption in Canada. We also co-produce a series of short video reports on good urban sustainability practices called "Sustainability Productions": http://oneearthweb.org/videos.html One to two videos get produced every year.
