Office of the Special Adviser on Africa

Purpose: To assist women and girls to participate in projects and programmes aimed at raising their educational, social, health and economic standards, thus playing a vital role in national development.
Illustrative Project: YWCA offers courses which start with basic literacy, sewing and home craft as well as training that earn national diplomas and certificates. These include diplomas in business studies, hotel and institutional catering, secretarial services, dressmaking and designing, nursery teaching, computer science and languages such as English and French. Students who complete their courses are employed in hotels and industries, while others have become self-employed.
