Purpose of the organization: Mission: The Organization's mission is to promote and enhance the capabilities of children, youth and women in Africa to effect positive social change that would bring about development in their lives and communities. Seeking to alleviate poverty and promote the holistic development of people and their communities, the organization has the following as its aims and objectives: - To promote Human Rights issues. - To help youth and women without basic or no education at all, acquire vocational and practical skills to make them self reliant and responsible. - To provide educational opportunities to poor and disadvantaged children across Africa. - To promote and organize campaigns against the spread of HIV/AIDS, EBOLA and other Health issues. - To organize and promote programs, activities, services and projects that gears towards promoting tolerance, nonviolence, peace and development. - To promote Democracy and Good Governance. - To complement the efforts of governments, NGOs and other agencies in producing mature, disciplined and responsible citizens in Africa. - To accept donations, contributions, to invest and reinvest any funds on hand, to use the income and proceeds thereof for the advancement of the purposes for which this organization was formed. - To establish, maintain and engage in any and lawful activities relative to the purposes for which this organization was formed.
Activities relevant to the conference of States Parties to the convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: The organization is running a program which seeks to promote the rights of people living with disabilities in Sierra Leone and advocate for them to have equal access to opportunities with regards livelihood and freedom of expression and movements. We hope to run similar initiative in other parts of Africa.
Confirmation of the activities of the organization at the regional, national or international level: Based on its aims and objectives, the organization is working on the following activities: Human Rights: It has been discovered that the reason for the many alarming cases of abuse and violence in Schools, Homes and Communities is due to the lack of knowledge about the basic human rights and the need to respect ones rights. AID is addressing these ills of society by promoting human rights education at all levels. Peacebuilding: AID regularly promotes tolerance, nonviolence and peace by encouraging and supporting mutual understanding, solidarity, and cooperation among all citizens in Sierra Leone and across Africa. Women Empowerment: AID is very active in addressing the challenges women face in their homes & communities in Sierra Leone and across Africa and helps to protect their rights at all levels. AID is also empowering women through life skills training opportunities and basic management skills. Also, AID regularly organizes programs to raise awareness against all forms of Abuse and discrimination against Women. Child Welfare: AID regularly promotes and supports child education and health care services. According to a recent studies, nine out of the ten worst countries for newborns (neo-natal mortality rates per thousand live births in 2012) are from Africa, including Sierra Leone, Somalia, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Lesotho, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mali, Central African Republic and Côte d'Ivoire. Half of these countries were affected by conflict. To help tackle such a huge challenge in the continent, the organization seeks to regularly advocate for and support the promotion of breastfeeding, neonatal resuscitation, kangaroo mother care for pre-term babies and the prevention and treatment of infections. AID also promote campaigns against all forms of abuse against children. HIV/AIDS & EBOLA AID is ensuring that citizens are actively involved in advocating for the prevention, treatment and cure of deadly diseases like EBOLA and HIV/AIDS and also help eradicate or mitigate stigma. Just as clearly, experience shows that the right approaches, applied quickly enough with courage and resolve, can and do result in lowering EBOLA and HIV/AIDS infection rates and less suffering for those affected by them. An ever-growing HIV/AIDS and EBOLA epidemics is not inevitable; yet, unless action against these epidemics is scaled up drastically, the damage already done will seem minor compared with what lies ahead. This may sound dramatic, but it is hard to play down the effects of diseases that stand to kill more than half of the young adults in the countries where they have their firmest holds. Youth Empowerment: AID fosters a commitment to young people that promotes pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope in the future. AID continues to advocate and create meaningful employment opportunities for youths with special emphasis on the less privileged and young women. WaSH: Water is Life! It is undoubtedly true that water is a very important aspect of man’s life and so also a very pertinent aspect of Human Rights. As an organization seeking to ensure the livelihood and sustainability of humanity, this program is mainly to advocate and promote Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH). Agriculture: Agriculture is a significant part of many countries in Africa. In Sierra Leone, for example, agriculture accounts for at least 58 percent of its national GDP. AID is supporting farmers with adequate tools and resources in producing sufficient food for their families, communities and countries in a more sustainable way.
