Accreditation to: Indigenous Forum
Affiliation with other organizations: The organisation represents the Basongora of Western Uganda. This is a pastrolist community that were original inhabitants of the present day kasese district. This community started being pushed to the periphery by the exodus of majority Bakonjo community migrating from Eastern Parts of the present day Democratic Republic of Congo in the 18th Century. They were pushed to their craddle land at the eastern basement of Mount Rwenzori which was later gazetted as a national park and industrial place where copper, cobalt and diamond was discovered in their ancestral sites. A community with unique, distinct and strong culture was forced to assimilation or scattered in small pockets in arid areas and slum places in the region. They are today getting confidence to re-assert their identity and negotiate for their existence as a people. They are characterised by abject poverty, lack of education and generally less priviledged.
