Major group affiliation:
  • Non-governmental organization
Affiliation with other organizations: SWBF signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Alzheimer’s Australia (WA) Ltd in 2010 and is an important partner in enabling the delivery of quality training programmes in dementia care to Foundation staff in Bangladesh that will benefit elderly service users receiving homecare from SWBF and their families. This partnership will be for the long term and will enable continuous appraisal of the standards of dementia care being provided by staff in Bangladesh over time and will help deal with any problems and ensure that the dementia care and treatment being provided keeps track with developments in this area. The Foundation also has the full support of Alzheimer’s Disease International in its proposed work on dementia in Bangladesh. Message from Mr Marc Wortmann, Executive Director, Alzheimer’s Disease International (November 2010): “I am very happy and pleased to give my full support on behalf of Alzheimer's Disease International to this application from the Sir William Beveridge Foundation to the Global Poverty Action Fund 2010. The Beveridge Foundation is planning a series of groundbreaking initiatives in Bangladesh to help promote appropriate care for sufferers of dementia and raise awareness of the condition among many different groups in society including the general public and health and social care professionals. It has developed a strong and firm presence in Bangladesh through its free homecare programme on which this dementia work can be built. Because of this, I approached Alzheimer’s Australia (WA) Ltd and asked them to partner in this project so they can make their knowledge and expertise available through the delivery of appropriate dementia training programmes, for instance, for the Beveridge Foundation’s care and nursing staff in Bangladesh and through other joint initiatives. Dementia is the fastest growing health issue across the world and providing adequate diagnosis, care and treatment for the sufferers and support for their families is vital in order for countries to cope with the expected rise in numbers. The Foundation is working to this end in a country of the world, Bangladesh, where dementia is virtually unknown and where a great deal needs to be done. Once developed, this dementia work will provide a much-needed platform for spreading awareness and care for this distressing condition into other parts of Asia.” Alzheimer’s Australia (WA) Ltd has experience in dementia care spanning 28 years. The range of services they offer includes an extensive education programme. They have been carrying out project work in Pakistan for 4 years; in India for 3 years and a range of smaller projects in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. The model of engagement that they will utilise in partnership with the Beveridge Foundation is well-developed and proven.
