Commission on Sustainable Development:
EANet-Africa has commence the integration of environmentally sound sustainable development principle and concepts, beginning at grassroots level, through the evolution of SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES (SDI). The first in the series – SDI- 1, is focused on the “TRANSFORMATION FOR THE FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY, (FCT), ABUJA INTO A SUSTAINABLE CAPITAL AND A CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE” – The first phase shall involve the establishment of “FOUR MODEL VILLAGES IN THE FCT”. This shall be executed in collaboration with the Ministries of the FCT, Federal Ministries, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as well as other members of Abuja NGO and CBO Forum, Phase II – shall focus on the establishment of the first “BUSINESS ROUNDTABLE ON THE ENVIRONMENT” in Nigeria. The SDI – 2 is focused on “INTEGRATED APPROACH TO SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT” (Phase I) – through the promotion of ‘’RECYCLING, REUSE, SOURCE REDUCTION AND COMPOSTING STRATEGIES- Our goal is to initiate a ‘’recycling’’ culture within business organizations and through the student members of ‘’Environmental Clubs’’ and other Conservation Clubs in Abuja FCT. By this action , the volume of ‘’wastes’’, shall be greatly reduced on one hand, while funds can be generated as incentive for marketing recyclable material [falsely called waste] [Phase11-The members of the school Club shall be organized to form the nucleus of the prestigious ‘’Global Learning and Observation to benefit the Environment’’ Programme of Vice –President ,Al-Gore, of the United States of America –[in collaboration with the United States Information Service, USIS].
