Purpose: | Grassroots Empowerment for Self Reliance is a human rights organization founded on the basis that basic social rights are basic human rights. GEM has concerned itself with undertaking project that benefit women, children and youths in underpreviledged communities. Examples of the projects include the sponsor of child programme, human rights workshops, sensitisation workshops, and peacebuilding workshops and training of community based animators. |
Illustrative Project: | GEMS organized a two day workshop 18-19 May 2001 on peacebuilding and reconciliation for thirty participants. The workshop resulted in the formation of a community peace monitoring. This workshop catered to ex-combatants and war victims as well as traditional community leaders. |
