Office of the Special Adviser on Africa

Purpose: Broadly, the aims of COMESA are to promote regional integration through trade development. The objectives are met through carrying out programmes in the development of industry, energy, environment, transport, communications, macro-economic harmonization, agriculture, peace and security, good government and capacity building.
Illustrative Project: COMESA Trade Information Network: This is a capacity building activity which has been on-going for the past 10 years. TINET contains four databases designed to provide answers to business needs in identifying market size and volume of import and exports for over 6,000 products traded within the region, by country value and direction of trade; a list of over 5,000 importers, exporters, manufacturers with contact information, by product, country and type of activity; the preferential tariff rates applicable for all products traded under COMESA arrangement; country profiles showing basic economic indicators of each major trade flows, investment opportunities, useful contacts, etc.
