Office of the Special Adviser on Africa

Purpose: To act in the case of armed conflict, internal strife and unrest, and in peace time. Prepare to act in all fields covered by the Geneva Convention on behalf of all war victims, both civilian and military; to contribute to the improvement of health through prevention of diseases and the mitigation of suffering with programmes that benefit the community; to organize within the scope of the National Plan; to provide emergency relief services to victims of disasters, howsoever caused; to disseminate and advocate for the respect and proper application of international humantiarian law; to promote the participation of youth in the work of the Red Cross.
Illustrative Project: Health Care and HIV/AIDS Information - our organization manages three rural clinics for a population of about 30,000. Care provided is curative, promotive, and rehabilitative. These also include family planning, ante natal care, immunization, and home-based care for terminally ill patients. We also collect 3,000 units of safe blood each year.
