Office of the Special Adviser on Africa

Purpose: WAYS is an indigenous organization formed by a group of Ugandans after a careful assessment of the plight of women and youth in Uganda and the need to uplift their standard of living.
Illustrative Project: After the Beijing International Women's Forum in 1995, WAYS has carried out detailed field research on existing domestic laws, especially as they affect women in Uganda with the aim of presenting the government with raw data with which to revise such laws. Other fields of research have dealt with the problems of the girl child and retention of the girl child in school. WAYS has also established a reproductive health services centre in a rural community, addressing issues such as high infection of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and high maternal mortality rate.
