Purpose: |
Encourage and promote interest in the study of and research in social sciences in the region; promote collaborative research and facilities for scholarly exchange of ideas and publications between individuals and institutions engaged in the study of, and research in social science; promote the training of African scholars in the study of, and research in social sciences and encourage the establishment of institutions dedicated to this goal; work in close cooperation with other individuals and institutions in Africa and elsewhere in the world engaged in the study of social science; establish a special fund to be used for the purpose of providing such research grants and training fellowships as are consistent with its objectives. |
Illustrative Project: |
Among others, OSSREA has been running two sets of small grant research competitions for scholars in the region - one in general social science and the other in gender issues. The former has been running for eleven years, and the latter for ten. The average awards range between five and eight thousand US dollars. The winners are selected by a jury of three reputed scholars of the sub continent. |
